Job Description

Our Client, A leading national brand established to market and distribute petroleum products and supply a wide range of allied products and services is looking to recruit a Chief Engineer for their Sharjah based operations.

Responsibilities may include but not be limited to:

Key Responsibilities Plans, directs and supervises the activities of assigned personnel engaged in the maintenance, repair and inspection of mechanical, electrical, instrument and electronic equipment and ensures that such activities are executed to established engineering, safety and loss control standards.

Discusses with consultants major projects and drafts related contracts. Prepares and submits annual engineering budgets and controls their expenditure.  Prepares and coordinates engineering staff training requirements.  Acts as overall coordinator at site in the event of an emergency on the pipeline.

  • Manages the activities of assigned personnel in the Engineering Section. Performs supervisory duties and exercises financial authority at the level established by management for the position.
  • Agrees and approves annual major maintenance and overhaul programmes and reviews and approves routine maintenance programme prepared by subordinates.  Includes mechanical, electrical, instrument and electronic.  Ensures that such programmes are executed as scheduled to establish engineering safety and loss control standards and with minimum disruption to operations.
  • Carries out the commercial evaluation of all engineering proposals.
  • Provides overall supervision and control of all engineering activities, ensuring that such activities are properly integrated operational activities.  Reviews proposals for modifications / improvements to systems and ensures that such proposals are properly vetted with justifications before submission to Modifications Committee.  Approves engineering and financial aspects of all proposals.
  • Ensures that equipment is inspected according to established methods, codes, practices and frequencies and reviews results of such inspections. Chairs quarterly meetings to review planned progress and examines items of equipment not inspected.
  • Reviews budget proposals submitted by units under his supervision and prepares comprehensive revenue and capital expenditure budgets for his section.  Ensures that expenditure is kept within budget limits and submits justifications for any variations.
  • Discusses with consultants all aspects of major projects; including potential extensions to the system or repairs to pipelines. Participates in negotiations with contractors, drafts the scope of work, and the terms and conditions of contract. Takes overall responsibility for all engineering projects.
  • Ensures that written maintenance procedures and engineering standards are available and updated.
  • Heads an investigating team in the event of a serious incident at the Compressor Station, Pipeline Network or Metering and Regulating Stations, and prepares reports with recommendations to ensure non-recurrence.
  • Deputises for the Gas Operations Manager in his absence.
  • Organizes and controls training requirements and individual development programmes for engineers, particularly local staff on Individual Career Programmes.  Carries out regular reviews and prepares reports / proposals.
  • Responsible for the overall control of activities and safety aspects relating to the pipeline in the event of an emergency on the network. Ensures that the site location is made safe and directs any repairs that are necessary.
  • Controls the stores inventory for all materials, equipment and spare parts budgeted by the section. Monitoring levels and ensuring that regular stock checks are carried out in accordance with corporate policies.
  • Carries out other similar or related duties such as preparing reports, undertaking special / adhoc projects.
Key Attributes
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Control Engineering or equivalent.
  • 10 years experience in oil distribution industry and maintenance work including at least 5 years in a supervisory position
  • Fluency in English
  • Project management skills
  • Team leadership; People management skills
  • Valid UAE driving license
Salary 25,000 AED (Negotiable)
